As the son of a well-known theatre director, I soon learned to feel and understand how to set a scene. When I was still a child, the photographer Ruth Walz put the first camera in my hand and I took my first pictures in the Berlin Zoo. Since then I have been fascinated by the wild animals of this world. I met many of the great photographers while working in an agency. Lagerfeld, Lindbergh and many others became my inspiration. To see them working and passionate about what they do always motivated me to keep going. Since 2010, I have been travelling regularly to Africa to capture the wildlife in my photographs.
My place of work and residence is Berlin, Germany.
WILD CREATURES - The moment of pause. Whenever I come across a wild animal in Africa, I find myself holding my breath. I listen to the sounds, the chirping of the birds, the rustle of the wind. I listen to the roar of a lion, the low rumble of elephants or the calls of baboons. I feel the heat of the bush or the pleasant coolness of the dense forest and I try to stop, to take in the moment and to understand it. This is when I press my camera's shutter.
My African photographs are stories of encounters with majestic lions, proud elephants, wild dogs that are almost mad with the joy of life. But they also look into the deep abysses of nature, showing the carcasses of slain prey, the desperate faces of the hunted. These stories of adventure capture and reflect the beauty and savagery of this unique continent.
It is my sincere hope that these images will serve to remind the viewer that we are but guests on this earth and that we must do all that we can to protect it from us.
